Otiom is ideal for care homes looking after residents with Dementia. It is a discreet, low cost solution to alert caregivers if a resident wanders out of a designated safe zone within a building. It can also send the resident’s GPS coordinates to caregivers should the person leave the premises. Since being launched in , Otiom is relied on by caregivers to keep residents at risk of wandering safe in a way that enhances and respects personal dignity.
How does it work?
Otiom comprises Home Bases and Tracking Tags. The Home Bases use bluetooth and easily blend into your Home’s décor. The Home Bases are placed at strategic locations throughout the care home. These mark out the designated safe zone. You can specify a safe zone specifically suited for the needs and preferences of the resident.
In addition to the Home Bases, each resident has a discreet Tracking Tag. The Tracking Tag communicates to the homebase when the wearer is in the home then switches to GPS when they leave and weighs less than 100g. The tag can be worn round the neck on the provided lanyard, on the belt clip, put in a pocket or even sewn into clothing.
As soon as the resident breaches their safe zone, caregivers receive an instant notification either to their mobile or desktop computer. You can also enable the Tracker Tag to automatically send GPS coordinates if the person leaves the building.
What’s in the Box?
The Kit contains everything you need – Tracking Tag(s), Home Bases, wireless chargers and accessories like the lanyards and belt clips.
Installation of the Home Bases is included in the price. Once you place your order, a member of the team will call you to confirm you have the right kit for your needs. We will then book a date for installation that suits you.
Installation will usually take a day or two depending on the size of the building. One of our team will install the Home Bases around the care home to gain maximum coverage of the property and make sure there are no blind spots. Once the system is installed, our team will train your team members (usually this takes about 1-2 hours).
Ongoing support for the product is also included in the price and we will assign an account manager to look after you for as long as the product is in use.
Maintenance and guarantees
There are no ongoing subscription costs. The units themselves operate on mains electricity (if battery how long does each charge last, what warning if battery is going flat).
Who makes Otiom?
Otiom was designed in collaboration with the Danish government and is currently the only medical device on the market designed specifically for tracking people living with Dementia, to the last detail, including a non-descript white tag that doesn’t flash or have any confusing buttons.
The product is produced in Denmark and used across Europe in private home and care homes to allow wearers some independence whilst making sure they are safe.
